Vol.XII - Sacre cantilene

Available in:
hard cover - Catalogue number: CQE4012 - ISMN: M-2056-4012-5
The posthumous volume of 'modern' pieces. The pieces are described as for 3, 5 or 6 voices but each has a four-voice Ripieno and all have a continuo part. The partbooks are marked FORTE and PIANO and there are more indications in the Basso Generale part, to which the editor (a priest at S. Stefano, obviously a friend of Croce) refers in his introduction: 'Anyone can perform these cantilene for 3, 5 and 6 voices in the way that is marked in the book containing the general bass for the organ, noticing that where the voices sing it must not be very loud, except in the part where it is marked TUTTI, which must be sung loudly to make a beautiful sound. There is in addition the ripieni for four voices to all the said cantilene, which ripieni can be answered in two and three choirs as desired, to make a beautiful and sweet concerto.' (Translation by Denis Arnold in MQ: see References). Here, as in the Vespertina (Volume IV) the organ part includes indications of suitable transpositions.
