The first volume of the Croce Edition includes, besides editions of the three 5-voice and one 6-voice masses, a new biographical study by Martin Morell. Drawing on all the latest research this presents the most comprehensive and up-to-date biography of the composer and includes sections on his almost 40 years of service at San Marco, his functions as a priest at S. Maria Formosa and his relations with his many patrons.
Croce published the three 5-voice masses in 1596. In 1599 there was a second edition, with the addition of the fourth mass, for 6 voices.

With regret, we announce that following the sad death of Michael Procter in May 2012, the Croce Quatercentenary Edition cannot be completed. Of the fourteen volumes that Michael planned, volumes I, II, VIII and XIII are complete. Volumes III, IV, V, VI, VII, IX and XIV will be abandoned. Volumes X, XI and XII will be completed by Professor Richard Charteris
